Carlos Heredia
Coach
U8 Academy 2017/2018
Playing Background
- I started playing organized soccerl since I was 11 years old. I have had the fortune to have been molded to the player that I became by this club (all the way back to its EDYSL days). I played for the ISC ‘98 boys team where under the realms of current interim head coach of the Oakland Roots, Gavin Glinton, I gained a greater knowledge of the game as well as a few medals and trophies. I also played for the UC Davis Men’s Soccer Club for a short stint.
Coaching Background
- I am currently new to coaching having recently started my coaching career last year with the U8 Academy 2016.
Coaching Philosophy:
- I believe in nurturing an environment where players are not scared to make mistakes and have fun playing the game. I believe that if players are having fun, moments of magic arise on the field.
Coaching Style:
- My style of coaching is based on the idea that the best way to defend is to have the ball. Thus, I strongly emphasize the physical, technical, tactical, and field awareness of a player. I like to encourage my players to become “hound dogs” when we are not in possession and when possession is ours to be technically/tactically sound to keep the ball. Although I believe in keeping it simple/tactically disciplined, I encourage players to “bend” these rules at times and have moments of creativity/risk. Nothing beats seeing your player dribble on multiple opponents or the thrill you get when you wonder if the 25 yard through ball of your fullback will go over the head of the opponents center back and into the feet of your striker.
